Two African women who are allegedly sex workers have been arrested at the red-light area at Bangla Road in Patong, Phuket, Thailand on Saturday, after the authorities discovered that they had overstayed their visas. The details of how long the had overstayed and how they have been funding their stays is unknown to anyone.
The Deputy police Chief of Patong, Lt Col Jessada Sangsuree affirmed the arrest of the two women following a report titled 'Suppressing Human Trafficking ans Alien Overstaying', was issued last Thursday, July 19 and addressed to Patong Police Chief, Col Anocha Jindamine.
According to the report, Patong police officers, Lt Nikorn Chuthong and Lt Narubodin Pangsenson arrested the women during officers' patrol and area checking along Bangla road.
The two women whose names are Latifah Hazziwa, 28, and, Shaniyah Nyongonga, 31, both from Uganda.
Shaniyah was reportedly arrested and cgarged for illegally staying in the country after her visa expired, while Latifah was charged with illegal entrance of the country and for staying without permission
In the Deputy Police Chief. Jessada Sangsuree's statement to The Phucket News,
“We are worried that more and more women are coming here to Phuket, especially Patong, and are doing the same like this. The same is happening in other areas like Pattaya. They arrive as if on a vacation, but stay longer”
