Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the defection of APC lawmakers to the opposition party PDP. The President wished all the lawmakers the best in their future endeavours.
In a statement read by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, President Buhari is committed to the values of democracy and freedom of choice.
He also revealed that the President is willing to work with all the members of the National Assembly, no matter their political party.
In the statement, he said, “As the saying goes, all politics is local. We understand that some of the distinguished and honourable lawmakers have issues with their home states, especially on zoning which bars some of them from seeking another term in their constituencies”
He said that none of the lawmakers who decamped from APC hand any specific grievances against him or the government that he leads, that the APC did all it could to stop the defection.
President Buhari praised the leadership of the party for relentlessly working for its unity and ensuring success in the upcoming elections and also assuring the members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) of his total support.
The President encouraged party members not to relent but to see the development as a seasonal occurrence that happens on election eve. He said that no harm or injury will be done to the party and its aspirations by the movements.
He added that none of the defecting federal lawmakers of the All Progressive Congress (APC) had any grievances against him and the government that he leads, neither did he harbour anything against any them.
The President wished all the members who defected the best in their future undertakings.
