A 25-year-old Ugandan student, Brian Isiko, have been sentenced to two years in prison for professing his love for a female lawmaker, Kabalore Woman Member of Parliament, Ms Sylvia Rwabwoogo.
The student of YMCA Jinja Branch was convicted when he pleaded guilty to counts of cyber harassment and offensive communication. He confessed that all calls and text messages which he sent to the woman whom he had never seen before, came from him. Meaning that he was stalking her.
With tears in her eyes and on her cheeks, the female lawmaker, Ms Rwabwoogo, told the court that she started receiving calls of profession of love from a stranger, that it all started around November 2017, which made her become insecure that someone had plans to harm her and thought the calls and text messages were a trap from her enemies.
In her words, “One of his texts that provoked my fears read: “I love you so much and want to protect you. My love is for you alone and since there is no one taking care of you, I will do it. I have realised that you are in deep trouble.”
Hm! Quite creepy lol, I'd be scared too.
Ms Rwabwoogo also revealed that she received many calls and more than 10 messages adding that there was a time her stalker texted saying that he had failed to sleep at night because he was thinking about her.
Ms Sylvia said, she set up an appointment to meet with her stalker, on June 11, 2018, after the Police assigned her a guard. Moments later, he was arrested.
Rwabwoogo added that what still surprises her is that even when Isiko was in police custody she continued receiving love text messages from his phone and that made her suffer from psychological torture.
Judge Kamasanyu, in her verdict said that the society has groomed men to always demean and disrespect women and that is why Isiko continued to disturb Rwabwogo even after his calls was blocked.
