Today, the US Justice Department announced indictments against 12 Russian nationals as part of Robert Mueller's investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, accusing them of engaging in a sustained effort to hack the email of democrats and computer networks.
The 12 defendants are members of the GRU, a Russian federation intelligence agency within the main intelligence directorate of the Russian military, who were acting in their official capacities.
The new revelations reveled more details concerning the sophisticated assault on the U.S election in 2016, including the release of emails which was designed to destroy the Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.
The indictment was announced the moment Donald Trump went to the quadrangle of Windsor Castle to meet with Queen Elizabeth II, during his visit to Britain.
Donald Trump will meet with Russian President, Vladimir Putin who has denied meddling in Helsinki election on Monday, for a summit that includes a one-on-one meeting with only interpreters present. On Friday, the white house press secretary, Sarah Sanders said, the summit will not be cancelled.
The Justice department revealed that the hacking targeted Hillary Clinton's campaign, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, with the intention to release information on the internet under the names DCLeaks and Guccifer 2.0 and through another entity. The Deputy Attorney Geeral, Rod Rosenstein at a news conference, revealed that the indictment does no name any American citizen, but told reporters that, defendants corresponded with several Americans during the course of the conspiracy through the internet. The indictment did not state that any American citizen committed any crime.
