US Pastor, Andrew Brunson Has Been Finally Released From Detention After 2 Years

Andrew Brunson was released yesterday after being detained in Turkey for two years. The American pastor landed at Ramstein Air force Base in Germany.

Brunson is also expected to spend a brief time at Ramstein before flying to Washington today where he will meet Donald Trump

Andrew was charged with helping to plot against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

On Friday, a Turkish court sentenced Brunson to three years and one month in prison, but chose to release him based on his time already served, and also because of his manner during the proceedings.

According to reports, Prosecutors were seeking a 10-year jail term. After he was released, Mr Brunson left his home in Izmir, Turkey immediately, and headed to the airport. Two US defense officials said that the US had put a military aircraft on standby from Europe to transport Brunson to the US from Turkey. A senior administration staff said that Andrew Brunson's wife flew with him.

President Donald Trump, while speaking at a rally in Ohio said, "earlier today we secured the release of pastor Andrew Brunson." Bunson, he said, is "free from jail" and was "in the air" on his way to Germany, where he will undergo a "brief check. He's coming to Washington, DC, tomorrow and we'll say hello. He went through a lot ... and he's on his way back."

Tank Explosion Razes 30 Houses And Shops In Niger State

No less than 30 houses and shops have been burnt down in Maje Community in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State after an oil loaded tanker exploded.

The incident happened on Thursday evening after the brake of the tanker fizzled.

The tanker was said to have slammed into three vehicles previously it smashed into the shops and detonated.

Authorities of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said that no life was lost.

Nigerian FG Suspends The National Carrier Project 'Nigeria Air'

According to reports, the Nigerian federal government has suspended the national carrier project 'Nigeria Air', indefinitely.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika revealed this in a tweet that has also been retweeted by the Presidency. The tweet reads: “I regret to announce that the Federal Executive Council has taken the tough decision to suspend the National Carrier Project in the interim. All commitments due will be honoured. We thank the public for the support as always.”

A woman has welcomed a baby girl after passing through several hardships in her quest to conceive a child.

The woman named Sandra Harrison revealed that she was diagnosed with fibroid, hormonal imbalance and tilted fallopian tubes. Several doctors tried all they could and nothing worked. She tried herbal doctors too, but none yielded any result.

According to Sandra, her condition took her to different places, including churches, in search of a cure. She took drugs, concoctions and herbs, yet there was no result.

She said that it was not as if she was not getting pregnant, she got pregnant multiple times but suffered 19 miscarriages. The hormonal drugs made her add so much weight, making people warn her to control it, unknown to them that it was beyond her control.

A lot of people called her names, mocked and gossiped about her and her fertility condition, some called her barren and other sort of names.

After 6 years of marriage, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.

800,000 People Commit Suicide Every Year - WHO

According to the World Health Organisation, WHO, no fewer than 800,000 people commit suicide annually.

The World Health Organisation (WHO), has revealed that, no fewer than 800,00 people commit suicide annually. The organisation revealed this yesterday, in a statement, in remembrance of the World Suicide Prevention Day.

WHO said that the most common methods of suicide were firearms and hanging, and this affects all regions and countries, rich or poor. It further revealed that most suicides occurred in low and middle countries, which accounted for almost four-fifth of the global suicides of 2016.

According to reports, in 2016, suicide was the leading cause of death among people between the ages of 15 and 29.

In high-income countries, there is a well-established link between suicide and mental health issues such as depression and alcohol use disorders.

But many suicides take place on an impulse during moments of crisis.

According to its estimation, the method of 20 percent of global suicides was the use of pesticide for self-poisoning, most of which occur in rural agricultural areas, in low and middle income countries.

WHO and the Mental Health Commission of Canada released a tool kit to help communities prevent suicides. The toolkit listed ways to avoid this serious health problem, one of which is the knowledge of the commonly used methods and prevention from access to these methods. They gave other examples which included policies to reduce drug abuse and alcohol, follow-up health care for attempted suicide cases and effective health care.

Man Cries Out After He Donated $15,000 Instead Of $15 To A GoFundMe Account

A man who wanted to donate money on a GoFundMe account to help a woman he has never met, mistakenly donated more than he intended.

72-year-old retired Jim Houck, clicked on a GoFundMe account of a woman who lives more than 1,400 miles away from him, intending to donate $15, but he donated $15,787.

Narrating his experience, he said, "My first thought was, "This didn't happen", he said immediately he realised his mistake, few days after making the donation. "Then it was, "How could this possibly happen?"

His donation was made to Isata Jalloh, in the picture above, a woman who was sacked unfairly from her job of pushing wheelchairs at Dulles Intenational Airport because she was suspected of asking for a tip. She was worried about how she was going to send money to her children at Sierra Leone and also pay her house rent in Herndon, Virginia.

Jim contacted GoFundMe's customer representatives (also called the Customer Happiness Team) when he realised that he donated more than he intended, one of the representatives told him that: "As for the $15,787 donation, it is not currently available in our system to refund right away"

He was given three options: "1. You can reach out to the campaign organiser to see if they can refund you directly. 2. You may be able to contact your bank credit card company to dispute the charge for your donation, 3. I can personally reach out to the campaign organiser and the issue the refund for you as soon as they reply with their confirmation"

He tried all the three options. He sent a mail to Isata Jalloh with the hope that she would understand and refund his money. He contacted his credit card company and they told him that he could only dispute the charges once they cleared, so he waited for a few days until they did.

Jim revealed that he asked a customer services representative named Mary, to send an email. Days passed and he did not get any feedback. He sent another email to the company to see if there any updates, but there weren't any.

Isata did not have a computer, so it took a long process, and, the GoFudMe account was set up by people who wanted to help her. After some days, they sifted through more than 700 mails and finally found Jim's donation. Isata decided to refund Jim's money from over $45,000 she made from the campaign.

According to a GoFundMe spokesperson, 'Mistakes with donations are rare occurence but can happen. This is an extremely rare situation, and if a mistake, big or small, does occur, the donor will usually recognize it quickly and reach out to our Happiness team for assistance. We are working with the donor and the beneficiary to correct this issue and get the donor his money back.”

Jim recently said that he has heard from the people helping Jalloh, and, he expects to receive a check with a large portion of the funds.

Lagos Third Mainland Bridge Has Been Closed For Maintenance

According to reports, the third mainland bridge in Lagos State, Nigeria, has been shut down, temporarily, for a investigative maintenance. The bridge was blocked on Thursday night, after an announcement by the State Government.

On Thursday night, different government officials and agencies were seen on the bridge, waiting for the closure of the bridge. Babatunde Fashola, the state Minister of Power, Works and Housing, was present also, to supervise as the bridge was closed.

Concrete barriers was put in place and the bridge will remain closed till, Sunday, August 26th.

The State Government said that the Third Mainland Bridge is closed to allow investigative maintenance test on the bridge before proper repairs will be embarked on, later.

Lagos State government appealed for the support, understanding and cooperation of all residents and motorists. The State residents was also advised to reduce non-essential travel and movements during the four-day closure of the bridge.

The third mainland bridge connects Lagos Island to the Mainland, the others the Carter and Eko bridges.

US Embassy Closes Its Abuja Consular Section Till Further Notice

The Embassy of The United States Of America has announced the temporal closure of its consulate in Abuja, Nigeria, till further notice.

The Embassy temporarily ceased both visa and American Citizenship services, according to the American Government.

This was revealed on the website of the Embassy. It was also announced that functions at the U.S Consulate in Lagos are not affected and will continue to run.

According to the statement, "Scheduled visa and ACS applicants for Abuja will be contacted for rescheduling. American citizens in northern Nigeria with emergency services needs should continue to contact the after-hours emergency number for Abuja at 09461-4000 and press “0” to go to the operator to request assistance. American citizens in northern Nigeria with urgent travel needs who are travelling before Tuesday and who are willing to re-schedule their travel through Lagos should contact the ACS office at Consulate Lagos ( 01460 3400 and LagosACS@state.gov) to discuss their options. Those travelling after Tuesday should follow up with Abuja ACS to confirm their appointments closer to their appointment date."

South African Cardiologist, Bongani Mayosi Commits Suicide After Battling Depression For Two Years

The Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town, Professor Bongani Mayosi has died at the age of 51.

Professor Bongani Mayosi, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town, has been confirmed dead at 51.

According to a statement released by the University of Cape Town, “It is with great sadness that we‚ the Mayosi family‚ announce the passing of our husband‚ son‚ father‚ brother and uncle‚ Bongani Mayosi who died on the morning of 27 July 2018. In the last two years he has battled with depression and on that day took the desperate decision to end his life."

Bongani was a Professor of Cardiology, who was awarded the country's highest honour, the Order of Mapungubwe in 2009. He was an A-rated National Research Foundation Researcher. His research interests are tuberculosis, cardiomyopathy and rheumatic fever. He was a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa and the former President of the College of Physicians of South Africa, until his death.

Police Arrests The Owner Of The Tanker That The Caused Otedola Bridge Explosion

The homicide detectives of the Sate Criminal Investigation And Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti Yaba, that was assigned to investigate the fatal motor accident that happened on June 28th 2018, along Lagos/Ibadan highway by Otedola Bridge, inward Ibadan, have arrested the owner of the petrol tank, whose name is Hassan Yusuf Maiwake.

The suspect who drove the petrol laden truck, withe the registration number NSR 888 YQ, is yet to be identified. The petrol truck lost control, spilling its content and went ablaze, burning more than 54 vehicles and killing 9 unidentified persons.

The owner of the truck, Mr Hassan Maikwe of No. 16 Hotoro Limawa in Kano State, was arrested on Thursday July 26th, in Kano. He is currently helping the police locate the driver of the truck.

The CP has assured that the command will do all it can to help families who lost the loved ones in the accident, find a closure by making sure that anyone found guilty is brought to book. The remains of the rigorously burnt victims is currently undergoing DNA tests to ascertain the identities of the victims. Investigations is still ongoing and any development will be communicated to Lagos State residents.

Donald Trump's Walk Of Fame Star Has Been Smashed Into Pieces With A Pick-axe

President Trump's Hollywood Walk of Fame star has been brutally smashed into pieces early on Wednesday morning by a man, using a pick-axe.

The Hollywood division officers received a call at about 3:33 am, to the tourist arena and found that Trump's star has been destroyed. A pick-axe was found at the scene.

The Los Angeles police reported that a man is currently in custody and is being questioned. The man turned himself in, on Wednesday morning at the Beverly Hills Police Department.

This is not the first time President Trump's Hollywood Walk of Fame Star is being Destroyed. It has been repeatedly been a target of vandalism and protest, since the reality Tv Star went into politics. Some people spit on the star, while some deface the star with paint and allow their dogs relieve itself on the landmark.

A street artist once constructed a tiny wall around Donald Trum's star in July 2016, but that did not stop anything. It did not stop people from destroying it.

Turkey Puts Jailed US Pastor Under House Arrest

On Wednesday, a Turkish court ruled to place an American Pastor, who has been imprisoned since October 2016, under house arrest.

State media said that, the pastor, Andrew Brunson, was arrested on terror related charges, a case that has raised tensions with the United States.

The Pastor ran a protestant church in the Aegean city of Izmir. Anadolu news agency said that he was being ut under house arrest. Its not clear if he had already left prison.

A final year student of Applied Microbiology And Brewing from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, identified as Francis, died as a result of lack of apparatus, negligence and dilapidated nature of the school's medical centre.

The students of the institution stormed the streets to show their grievances over the death which would have been prevented.

The course representative of the deceased who identified himself as Emeka, reported that Francis slumped when he was playing basketball with his mates, and was rushed to the school medical centre, which is some metres away from the basketball court. They were surprised when they did not see any medical doctor nor someone to attend to emergency cases. The doctor arrived later and asked for oxygen, nothing was provided, therefore, he referred the patient to another hospital, on reaching the hospital, he was confirmed dead.

The students are protesting in other to avoid a re-occurrence, since two students have already died this semester.

One of the protesters said that the most annoying thing was the comment from the Dean of Students affairs who said: "This is Nigeria where things don't go well, that here is Awka not like Nnewi, where there are facilities and equipments" And also the comment from the school P.R.O: "The student died before he was brought to the medical centre".

He also said that the school security threatened to deal with them if they continue with the protest, calling on the good people of Anambra State to come to their aid.

According to another source, the security of life and property in Unizik is in jeopardy, that robbery has taken another dimension, that the students are helpless to armed men. They called on the school management to do something about it.

A source said that, the students intended to round the school with their cardboard papers and candles to honour the dead and also send a message to the school authorities, but was stopped and threatened by the school security. This made them to match to ABS (Anambra Broadcasting Service) to pour out their grievances.

A Ghanaian pastor has confessed that he carried out rituals and murder of over 600 children handed to him as sacrifices by devil-worshiping doctors and nurses in Ghana.The man who name was withheld, wore a mask while he made the claims during a television interview. He told the interviewer that he had spent 17 years living with Satan. During his confession, he said that he killed 675 people who were mostly children given to him by members of a occult group in the medical profession.

He also said that he was born with dark spirits and once had more than 650 demonic spirits at his disposal, some of which he named. He went on to say that he needed to make the sacrifices in order to sustain his power, but has left the 'Satanic kingdom", according to the reports in the country.

The pastor slammed so-called 'fake' pastors in the country, accusing them of using dark spirits to deceive their followers and congregation.

Yen.com reported that the Pastor denied he was speaking out for monetary gain, insisting that he is the son of a former Chief Justice who left him properties before passing away.

A video of the man's confessions appeared on Ghanaian media, with reports saying that the clips was culled before it could go on air, on television.

Federal Government Unveiled A National Airline Called 'Nigeria Air'

On Wednesday, 18th July 2018, the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika unveiled the name of Nigeria’s national carrier, as well as the logo at the Farnborough International Airshow in London.

The Minister said the national carrier is called Nigeria Air. During the unveiling, Hadi Sirika said, “this will be a National Carrier that is Private sector-led and driven. It is a business, not a social service. Government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it. The investors will have full responsibility for this. The Nigerian Government will not own more than 5% (maximum) of the new National Carrier. Government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it. We’ve been talking to Airbus and Boeing (and they’re present at this event) regarding the aircraft for and we will be making announcements very soon. We are currently negotiating.”

He also added that government is in talks with aircraft providers.

Girl Falls Sick And Dies In Front Of Her Fellow Students During Band Practice

According to reports, a 17-year-old girl became sick and died in the presence of about 90 of her fellow students at a Long Island High School, last Monday night.

The student, who is a junior at Sachem North School, died around 9:15 p.m after suffering a medical incident, during band practice, NBC New York reported.

The incident happened while the student was at a band rehearsal at nearby Sachem East High School,the same school where another tragedy took place during football rehearsal last summer.

In a statement by the district superintendent, Keneth Graham: "It is with deep sorrow that the district has learned that an incoming senior at Sachem North High School tragically passed away last night. We are currently not aware of the cause of death. Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual’s family and friends during this difficult time."

The head of the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) on Monday, said that China is saddling poor nations with unsustainable debt through large scale infrastructure projects that are not economically viable

Trump targeted Beijing in a trade war that has sent ripples through economies in the world comes following Washington's seek to ramp up development finance in the face of China's global ambitions.

China's President, Xi Jing Ping's 'Belt and Road' which was unveiled in 2013, aims to build an infrastructure network which will connect China by land and sea to South east Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

China pledged $126 Billion for the plan, which has been applauded by its supporters as a source of vital financing for partners starved of infrastructures in the developing world.

OPIC CEO, Ray Washburne warned that the Chinese strategy created a debt trap for many poor nations, he revealed this during an interview with Reuters in Johannesburg

He said, “Just look at any project in these countries and they’re overbuilding the size.We try to have countries realise that they’re indebting themselves to the Chinese.”

Mr Washburne is not the first to warn of growing debt connected to China's infrastructure projects. In April, Christine Lagarde, the International Monetary Fund Managing Director cautioned China's Belt and Road partners against considering the financing as 'a free lunch'.

In December, Sri Lanka formally handed over commercial activities in its main southern port, in the town of Hambantota to a Chinese company as part of a plan to convert $6 Billion of loans that Sri Lanka owes China into equity.

Man Sets Himself On Fire To Protest Jail Time

Reports revealed that a man died after setting himself ablaze to protest a prison sentence in Hanoi, Vietnam.

A former chief of Dao Ngan village in Hanoi's Choung My District, Bui Huu Tuan, 68, died on Thursday after he set himself on fire because he was sentenced to five years for the abuse of power. He went outside the Central Citizen Reception Committee in Hanoi on the morning of July 4, poured gasoline on his body and set himself ablaze to protest his conviction.

He had gone to the Central Citizen Reception Committee with Luong Cong Tinh, also from Dao Ngan, to lodge an appeal while out on bail.

Chairman of Hop Dong Commune’s People Committee, Tran Trinh, where the deceased lived, revealed about Bui Huu Tuan's death. He suffered burns on 77 per cent of his body, including deep burns into his muscles and skeleton.

"His remains will be buried at his family tomb," Tran Trinh said.

Hundreds Of Nigerian Troops Missing After Boko Haram Overruns Base

Hundreds of Nigerian troops are currently missing after Boko Haram jihadists overran a military base in the remote northeast, security sources said on Sunday, in the second major assault on the armed forces in two days.

A military source who pleaded anonymity, told AFP that the militants invaded a base holding more than 700 soldiers in Yobe state, where they kidnapped over 100 Dapchi schoolgirls earlier this year, in an hours-long onslaught on Saturday night

Fewer than 100 soldiers returned following the attack, which took place 24 hours after Boko Haram fighters ambushed a military convoy in neighbouring Borno state on Friday.

The two assaults have highlighted the tenuous hold Nigerian forces have on the ravaged region despite claims by President Muhammadu Buhari’s government that the country is in a “post-conflict stabilisation phase”.

“Boko Haram terrorists attacked troops of the 81st Division Forward Brigade at Jilli village in Geidam district. The terrorists came in huge numbers around 19:30 and overran the base after a fierce battle that lasted until 9:10 pm. The base had 734 troops. Currently the commander of the base and 63 soldiers have made it to Geidam (60km away) while the remaining 670 are being expected,” the military source said.

“We don’t know if there were any casualties among the troops. That will be known later,” he said, adding that the base was new and the troops had recently arrived from Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital.

A leader of a local anti-jihadist militia said the soldiers sustained casualties, but was unable to give a toll, attributing the attack to the Abu-Mus’ab Al-Barnawi faction of Boko Haram, which is known for targeting Nigerian forces.

“We learned that they drove from Lake Chad through Gubio (in nearby Borno state) and attacked the base,” he said.

Geidam resident Fannami Gana said the jihadists “overwhelmed” the troops.

“We don’t know the details of what happened but we learnt they were overwhelmed by hundreds of Boko Haram gunmen,” said Gana.

Nigerian army spokesperson Texas Chukwu said he did not know about the attack.

“I am not aware of the attack because (I) have not received information from there,” Chukwu said in a text message to AFP.

On Friday, 23 Nigerian soldiers went missing after Boko Haram ambushed a convoy outside Bama, leading to the loss of several military vehicles.

According to a military officer, “around 100 terrorists” attacked the convoy.

The sophisticated attacks highlight the continued threat – and evolution – of Boko Haram, an Islamic State group ally, said Yan St-Pierre, counter-terrorism advisor and head of the Berlin-based Modern Security Consulting Group.

St-Pierre suggested the attacks could be because Boko Haram fighters are vying for control of the faction led by Abubakar Shekau, the long-time jihadist leader who is reportedly ill.

“When a near-mythical leader is on his way out there’s always a battle to establish who could be next,” said St-Pierre.

The attacks show the persistent threat of Boko Haram in the Lake Chad region, he said.

As the jihadists exploit rampant poverty in the region, the Nigerian army, which is overstretched and under-resourced, struggles to keep the insurgency in check.

“The supply of Boko Haram fighters is always there, either through kidnapping or economic reasons, they tap into a wide pool of personnel, they find a way to replenish their strength,” St-Pierre said.

Buhari, a 75-year-old former military ruler, came to power three years ago on a promise to defeat Boko Haram.

But while there have been clear military gains since a counter-insurgency started in 2015, suicide bombings and raids has been constant threat, especially towards civilians.

Boko Haram’s Islamist insurgency has devastated the region since 2009, leaving at most 20 000 people dead, displacing more than two million others and triggering a humanitarian crisis.
