An inmate of Bridge City Center for Youth in Louisiana, Jireh Martin, 18, has been arrested and charged with the rape of a fellow inmate, inside a bathroom in the prison. He was booked on Thursday on a count of second-degree rape, the authorities reported.
A spokeswoman for the state office of Juvenile, identified as Beth Touchet-Morgan, said that the incident occurred on July 6, inside a restroom, near a recreational area at the jail.
She revealed that there are no cameras in the bathroom, in accordance to the federal law but victim underwent a sexual assault examination at a hospital.
In Beth's words: "An internal investigation is ongoing into the circumstances leading to the incident. Once the investigation is complete, appropriate employee disciplinary action will be taken if warranted. In addition, if warranted, additional security protocols and procedures will be put in force."
She added that Martin has been transferred to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, where he is being held without bond.
