The All Progressive Congress (APC) has lost fifteen Senators. Nigeria's Senate President, Bukola Saraki, during Plenary, on Tuesday, July 24, announced that Senator Dino Melaye, former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso and 13 other Senators from the All Progressive Congress (APC) have defected to the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
The other Senators are: Senators Suleiman Hunkuyi, Ibrahim Danbaba, Ubale Shittu, Isah Misau, Suleiman Nazif, Soji Akanbi, Barnabas Gemade(Benue), Shaaba Lafiaji(Kwara), Rafiu Ibrahim(Kwara), Abdulazeez Nyako(Adamawa), Monsurat Sunmonu(Oyo) and Usman Nafada(Gombe).
After the Senate President made the announcement, some Senators started chanting 'PDP' in the chamber.
Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawal, appealed to the defecting Senators not to defect. He added that the ruling party, APC has its own internal disagreement but "this does not translate to factionalisation, therefore, they (the Senators) have no reason to defect.
