The Duchess of Cambridge stood out on the BAFTA red carpet last night in her dark green Jenny Packham gown but a lot of people fumed at her outfit and here's the reason why.
As always, Kate Middleton, 36, looked sweet in her outfit but when she entered London’s Royal Albert Hall alongside her Bafta president husband Prince William, 35 there was complete silence and no applause. This is because there was an all black dress code for the event in support of the Times Up movement campaign highlighting sex harassment.
Insiders believe Kate chose to opt out of the dress code to avoid being seen as political.
But one guest at the showbiz bash demanded: "How is supporting equality for women political?"
Viewers also took to social media to condemn Kate's fashion decisions.
One wrote: "Disappointed in #KateMiddleton #DuchessofCambridge not wearing black to the #EEBAFTAs. It's not a political thing. It's a woman thing! #TimesUp #StandTogether."
Another tweeted: "How does Kate not feel any shame sitting right at the front with a green dress while every other woman is wearing black. Honestly she should have stayed her a** at home if she wasn't even gonna show her support for women."
Another wrote: "If her mother-in-law, The Duchess of Cornwall, can stand against sexual harassment openly and making a topic of it, then Kate can wear a black dress easily without raising any questions... so, yeah..."
Others praised her for finding a middle ground with the black sash on her dress, and her black handbag.
One wrote: "I think the #DuchessofCambridge's dress is a smart move. Not black, so in line with protocol, but dark enough to be a nod of support."
