PETITION AGAINST THE NIGERIAN POLICE FORCE (NPF) BY THE CONGRESS OF NIGERIAN YOUTHS (CONYO)

UNLAWFUL ARREST, ASSAULT &  TRAFFICKING; A CRUDELY RICH ACT, WHICH POSES A GREAT THREAT TO LIFE AND UNITY OF NIGERIANS.

Its no longer news that there have been horrendous and fearful cries by the Nigerian masses over the dreadful and horrific acts perpetuated by some unscrupulous and uncultured officers of the Nigerian Police Force, at different locations nationwide, despite the handful security issues facing the nation at this turbulent time.

At a time where we are yet to recover from the unforgotten happenings which led to the dismissal of three policemen from the Area N Command, Ikorodu area of Lagos State, dismissed over the unlawful arrest and extortion of the masses which they are meant to protect and ensure their well being. The officers caught in the acts, of impersonation, pretending to be operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad which they aren't.

We are shocked and bitterly engraved as we receive another case of criminal act again perpetuated by the few ones who are bent on tarnishing and soiling the outfit who ought to sanctify and purge our society of criminal and dreadful acts, bringing public opprobrium to the image and integrity of the Nigeria police force as long as they remain in the force. Receiving the news whereby some bad heads in the force from Adewole police department in Ilorin, Kwara States, were grossly involved in the recent case of human trafficking and death of the innocents lives and souls which deserved their protection earlier this month.

To this story we condemn in strong terms and frown  these indeliberate, uncivilised and unpremeditated acts by the few heads bastardizing and dirtying the good image of the force, hardly fought for by upright and diligent officers, as we have been too quiet on unrestrained acts of corruption, numerous unleashed violence on armless citizens.

We call on the Inspector General of Police, the Nigerian Police Commission and other stakeholders to as a matter of urgency look into, review the structure of the police force deliberately to curb and prevent further occurrences of this unpleasant menaces. The force has been tagged evil and seen as a sector needed to be scrapped as incessant cases of bribery, extortion and other unpleasant stories has been recorded from different men of the force.

Also we call for strict discipline and punishment to erring officers and those found guilty, as we seek justice for this offensive, barbaric, wild, gross misconduct, irresponsible, lawless, impunity, inciting, and invitation to anarchy and despicable actions of these men of the Police Force, one capable of disrupting the peace of the nation causing break down of law and order and also capable of disintegrating us at a time we are ensuring the unity and stability in the country.

We are sure this complaint of ours will be treated with alacrity, while pledging our commitment to partner with the force if need be to ensure we achieve a peaceful and sane society we all crave for.

God bless the federal Republic of Nigeria,
God bless the Nigeria Police Force,
God bless you all.
